Yesterday we celebrated Calla's second birthday at Michelle and Christian's. It was also my brother's birthday and I gave him a call yesterday to wish him a happy birthday, but had to leave a message as he wasn't home. Happy birthday again, Art!
Ava wasn't too sure at Michelle and Christian's house. There were a lot of people there she didn't know (Christian's family and a friend of Michelle's) as well as some helium balloons. I think the balloons wouldn't have scared her except for the fact that Calla and Marcel (Christian's dad) were making them bounce around a lot and actually make a lot of noise and erratic movement with them. I just held her for a bit to get accustomed to her surroundings. We went and sat with Grandpapa for a bit, and then tante Joelle, Uncle Kevin, Jacques and tante Lisette showed up, so Ava was surrounded with a lot of familiar faces.
After about 20 minutes, she was ready to join the party! Tante Lisette and Grandmaman took their turns giving her cuddles and hugs, and tante Joelle and Uncle Kevin even got their chances with Ava! She ate her dinner like it was going out of style, and was fairly good overall even though I knew she was a tired little girl. We got home around 1830, and she was in bed sleeping by 1930. Unfortunately with the time change, she was up at 5!
Yesterday was also the day my sister Anita passed away eight years ago. I usually try to get to the cemetary to pay a little tribute to her...but since my mom passed away, it's been harder and harder to go there. It makes me sad to think that out of the six people in my immediate family, two are already gone. I would give anything for those two people (my mom and sister) to see what a wonderful grand-daughter and niece they have. In my heart, I know that they are watching out for her and see her growing and changing everyday, but it's not the same.
On a slightly more cheerful note...Marc and Ava and I decided to go for brunch this morning as a treat. We headed out to Smitty's as they have an all-day menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner...depending what you're in the mood for. Marc chose pancakes and an omelette and I had a burger. Ava enjoyed her first taste of pancakes, too! We couldn't put them in her mouth fast enough! Here are some pictures Marc took with his camera phone:

Faster, Mom, faster! These are good!
I love this face! It's the best picture so far! :>

Hi Angel,
I love the pictures of Ava enjoying her pancakes - what's not to love? Carbs and sweet syrup! ;)
Although I can't comprehend the loss of a mother and a sister, I am convinced they know their beautiful little granddaughter/niece and are VERY proud of the wondeful Mom that you are (just as we are of you, too!)
Take care!
Art got his birthday wishes. Thanks. :) We were going to phone back but it was too late after we got back from eating out.
