A Grumpy Day

After a bit of a trying night with Ava being up for about an hour last night from midnight to 1:00 and getting up far too early this morning (6:00), I did not feel like getting out of bed this morning! After feeding Ava I crawled back into bed for fifteen more minutes of horizontal rest before I planned on taking her downstairs. Marc was too kind though, and offered to take our little songbird downstairs for the early shift.

I was woken up two hours later by a very grumpy little girl! Marc brought her up because he had to get ready to take the boys to their final bowling for the year and also because he was at his wit's end. She was fed and had a diaper change but completely unconsolable. I took her for a feeding and hoped that she would go down for a nap. It seems that the more tired she is, the harder it is to settle her down for a nap. This proved to be the case and she was not interested in sleeping. We headed back downstairs to play for a bit and an hour later I tried again. Success, albeit short-lived.

After Ava woke up from her short nap I thought good spirits would be restored but I was wrong again. She was content for a short time but soon showed definite signs of needing more rest. I decided to play hardball and lay down with her on our bed and forced her into nap time. She finally succumbed to having a rest and 45 minutes later woke up in a much better space.

After an afternoon filled with playing with her toys and checking out her big brothers, she again needed another nap before supper. This time Papa took our little night owl and she managed to sleep for another 45 minutes or so before Earl jumped on the bed and woke her up. This last nap seemed to really put her in a good space because she stayed up and played with Alix and Samuel after supper until almost 1930! They really tired her out because after changing for bed and a feeding, she was out like a light. Hopefully she sleeps all night as we have a busy day tomorrow with seeing Samuel's choir concert in the afternoon and a get-together with Marc's high school friends and all of their boys (yes, they all have boys and only boys! Ava is the only girl in the mix!) for supper in the evening.
