May Long Camping

This past long weekend we went camping in Minnedosa (Kim's home town) with a bunch of other families. It was the furthest from home we've ever taken our trailer, and we were a little apprehensive about it. We packed up the trailer (but forgot a million things!) and headed out in the afternoon on Friday. Ava slept for about half of the three hour trip, and was otherwise pretty happy for the rest of the trip.

We got to the campsite, paid for our reservation and set up camp. It was a pretty quick set-up (especially compared to the pop-up) and Ava set off to play with the 13 other children there. No shortage of playmates here! Friday night was gorgeous with the sun shining and warm weather until dusk. After the kids went to bed, the adults sat around the campfire and some made smores. It was what I call, the 'calm before the storm'!

Saturday morning we woke up to rain, rain, and more rain! It didn't stop the kids from playing in the campsite, though. Ava had a blast playing with the toys and the kids while Russ, Kim and I went garage sale-ing, an annual event in Minnedosa over the long weekend. I bought quite a few toys for Ava for cheap, such as a swing for the swing set we will be building later this spring, and some Little Tykes furniture. The rest of the day was spent trying to keep dry. We did sit around the camp fire for about an hour, but then the rain started and we turned in to bed.

Sunday was sunny, but windy! We probably had gusts up around 40 km/h! Luckily, Ava had a long nap that afternoon and so we had a bit of a reprieve from the wind. The wind blew all day until about dusk, when it finally settled right down and we had a beautiful evening by the camp fire. We could see the stars while roasting our marshmallows!

We packed up early Monday morning and headed home. We were back home at about 1400, sad to leave, but also happy to be home. Can't wait for our next trip!!
