This past Tuesday Marc and I took Ava to "Boo at the Zoo", an annual Halloween event that takes place at the Assiniboine Park Zoo that is sponsored by Safeway. The zoo employs several volunteers that dress up in costume and entertain visitors big and little along the way through the path. Ava was too little to go last year, as she was only six months old, but this year was a different story!!
We quickly ate dinner when we got home and then got Ava ready for the zoo. Once we arrived at the zoo, we put Ava into her very cute purple butterfly costume and strapped her into the stroller. The crowds were quite thick at the door as we arrived shortly after opening, so trying to have her walk through the mob was not the safest thing!
Once through the gates, Ava was very interested in looking at everything; the other little ones in very cute costumes, big people in costumes, the decorations, lights, and hearing the music. Once we made it through the majority of the attraction and the crowds had thinned out a bit, we took Ava out of the stroller and let her walk around. She loved it!! She was giving high-fives to almost everyone of the volunteers and was always grinning! She posed wonderfully for pictures for her maman, and always made sure Papa and Maman were within arms-length!
Just over an hour in the zoo, we headed for our car to go back home. Ava had had enough and was starting to get a little cranky. We stopped in at Tim Horton's for some hot chocolate, coffee and TimBits, which Ava enjoyed sharing with her Papa!
I'm so glad that Ava enjoyed herself at the zoo for her very first Halloween adventure. Next year, we anticipate even more excitement from her, as well as probably having to wait in the long, long lines for the pony rides! Hopefully she won't be interested in ponies! ;)
