Sledding fun!

We have been having some very nice weather the last little while and so we decided to get out of the house and go enjoy the snow!

We got Ava all dressed up for playing outside, grabbed the sleds and went out to The Forks. When we got there, I realized that there wasn't really a good place to go sledding and there was a snowboarding contest going on so I didn't feel too comfortable with Ava sliding close to the boarders.

We wandered about the grounds, looking for a suitable place to slide and finally settled on a little mound of snow by the River Walk. We had to break a path, but Ava was loving going down the little slope on her sled! After we were done that we made our way over to the family fun zone on the river trail where Ava could throw little plastic fish into a cut-out penguin board - something she thought was lots of fun!

After all of that, we walked back to the car where she promptly fell asleep! Looking forward to our next outdoor excusrion - the zoo - to enjoy this nice weather!

Superbowl Sunday

Marc and I wanted to have a mini party for Superbowl Sunday but we didn't know what we should do. Marc called his parents to see if they wanted to watch it with us, but they invited us over to their house as they have a bigger TV! :)

We told them since they were hosting, we would take care of the food. By gameday, Lisette and Joelle and her gang were coming too so it was going to be a very fun evening of football! We got Ava to cheer for the Steelers and say "Packers P-U!" while holding her nose (more to egg on Alix than anything)! I donned my Steelers jersey while Alix put on his Packers one while we watched the game.

Ava had a ton of fun playing with her cousins, Jacques and Mikka! The three of them did not stop for the longest time - until Mikka started getting tired (I suspect the older two were being a little bit unfair to him while they were playing) and chilled on his mom's lap.

The unfortunate end to the game came about (Packers winning it by 6 points) and we quickly rounded up Ava and headed towards home. She was pretty tuckered out after playing so hard with the boys that she was out in no time!

Lit maman et papa!

Ava has always been a good sleeper since she was a little baby, but lately she has been making bedtime less than easy!

Going to bed is not a problem. She gets into PJs and into her bed with no issues and waits until we leave to hop into our bed. Not really a big deal because when we come up, we move her back into her bed. The problem arises at 4 or 5 in the morning when she wants to come BACK into our bed.

I'm a bit selfish when I sleep and I don't like getting hoofed by little feet. Trying to put Ava back into her bed has become a challenge. She fusses and cries and carries on. Not fun. We think it may be because she is not needing her naps in the afternoons as much and so she is waking up earlier than her usual time.

Other than that, she is getting more and more independent. Lately she is more consistent at going to the bathroom by herself and then washing her hands afterwards. She is also starting to play more indepedently with her toys which is nice to see. Of course, she still wants one of us with her a lot of the time but not as much as before. She also has some favourite books that she likes to read aloud to us by herself!

Favourite movies as of late are all the Toy Story series ("Buzz and Woody"), Nemo and Aladdin (which she calls Jasmine). We are planning on taking her to Disney on Ice in February, so I hope that she enjoys it!!

Busy Weekend

I worked Friday and Saturday evening this past weekend, and then in my ulitmate wisdom, decided to host Samuel's 12th birthday party on Sunday. I was dead tired, but we had a very good time!

The boys were staying with us this weekend because their mom is away in Cuba. They came on Thursday and we hit the ground running. They both had to be at the Y Thursday evening, so I drove them as Marc was still quite tired from working nights and then having to stay up for the duct cleaners to do their job. I made a stop at the mall since I was out to re-stock my make-up supply and due to the bad weather, the mall was nice and quiet.

Friday resulted in dropping Sam off at school, and Ava off at Denise's. Alix walked to school with his friend and Marc and I zipped over to Costco to do our grocery shopping for the party on Sunday. The store was pretty calm, and we even had time to grab a snack at the little cafe before heading home and I had to get ready for work.

My shift was long and dull as there weren't a lot of people out and about due to the slippery streets. We had a lot of snow, so even the casino was quiet! Saturday was busy before I went to work, too because Ava had music, Sam had bowling and Alix wanted to ice skates sharpened so he could join his friends in a game of shinny. Ava had fun at music and participated quite well. She played most of the instruments properly and loved banging on Claudine's big drum! Marc and Sam got back just in time for me to jump in the car and head back to work. The casino was much busier this time, but I wasn't really wired to be at work so it was a long shift for me.

Sam was pretty excited when we told him we were having his birthday party Sunday. He looked through recipe books and picked one for his birthday cake. It was an easy apple cake, and it turned out very well! Sam did a great job following the recipe.

All in all, it was a jam-packed weekend! The next two weekends are going to be very busy too! But that's ok, good reasons to get out of the house in this blustery weather!

Grumpy Saturday for Mom

I got to sleep in this morning, but when I woke up just after nine this morning I did not feel refreshed at all. I had a dull headache, a sore jaw (I tend to clench my teeth in my sleep), and felt sore in general. Luckily Ava was pretty content watching her newest movie addiction, the Toy Story series.

After the movie was done, Marc made pancakes and Ava ate almost a whole big pancake. After breakfast was done, we settled in the living room where Ava watched a bit of her movie and played with her toys. Marc was feeling tired (understandably as Ava was up before 7) so he headed back to bed around 11:30 or so. I puttered on cleaning up the kitchen a bit and baking a loaf of pumpkin spice bread before Ava went for a nap. She was pretty interested that I was making bread with eggs!

Ava woke up for her nap a little out of sorts, so we cuddled while watching some football with Marc. The rest of the evening was spent watching some Toy Story, playing with toys, reading books and taking a bath. Oh yes, and scattering Q-Tips all over her room. Thankfully Marc picked those up for me!

Tomorrow Ava and I are on our own again as Marc is working. Here's hoping that it isn't a grumpy day for anyone!!

Merry Christmas

Christmas for Ava and I has been a quiet affair thus far. We were home on Christmas Eve, and today I spent the afternoon making perogies for Christmas dinner tomorrow with the Savard extended family. We did go over to grandmaman and grandpapa's this evening for supper, which was very yummy! Merci grandmaman and grandpapa!

Ava did open one gift today as Marc was able to get home for about 10 minutes this morning. She got a 7 figurine set of Toy Story toys, and she played with them for the rest of the afternoon! She was pretty happy with them, so I'm glad Marc and I decided to get them for her! Can't wait for her to open the rest of her gifts!

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!!

The Baking Bug

This past Saturday Ava and I went to grandmaman and grandpapa's house to help with some Christmas baking. We met tante Michelle, tante Lisette, tante Joelle, Jacques and Mikka there too, so it was lots of fun!

I started off by making marshmallow roll (the dainty I've sort of taken over making every year!), and then moved on to peanut and chow mein clusters. Ava enjoyed playing with her cousins, and eating bunny cookies provided by tante Joelle! She even donned an apron and joined me in the clusters development. Ava's contribution was to taste test almost every cluster!

We ate a quick lunch of sandwiches and then papa came to join us! Ava was pretty excited that papa was there, and papa was excited that there was all kinds of baking to act as 'quality control' for! I guess that's where Ava gets it from. :) Soon, it was time to pack up and head home for Ava's afternoon nap. She had a good nap even though she was filled with sugar and chocolate. After she woke up, we puttered around, watching some of her preferred DVDs, reading, and playing. Soon it was time to make dinner and wake up papa so he could get ready for work.

Sunday was another low-key day. Ava and I went to mass with grandmaman and grandpapa (and then out for a yummy breakfast). Papa woke up shortly after we got home and he and Ava went to watch some football while I had a very refreshing nap! When Ava came up for her nap, I headed out to Safeway to finish up some of the grocery shopping we had started at Costco on Friday. I bought ingredients to try a fudge, or sucre a creme, recipe that I had gotten from Chez Cora's.

After Marc left for work that evening, I set out to make the fudge. Ava came to help me with the brown sugar, but to my clumsiness, I sent the saucepan flying with the sugar in it, causing both Ava and I to be covered in grainy, sugary goodness. Ava wasn't too interested in helping me after that!! Regardless of my initial mistake, the fudge turned out creamy and good! For my first try, it is quite yummy!
